Frequently asked questions

Everything about how Modoro tracks focus time, logs Pomodoro blocks and turns your day into statistics and AI insights.

What is Modoro?

Modoro is a free Pomodoro timer and focus time tracker that runs in the browser. You can run a countdown for a work block, or log a block of time you already finished, and Modoro records it by category so you can see daily totals, category share, a calendar heatmap and AI-generated recaps of your day.

What is the Pomodoro technique?

The Pomodoro technique is a time management method where you work in fixed blocks — traditionally 25 minutes — followed by a short break of about 5 minutes. After four blocks you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. The point is that a short, defined block is easier to start and easier to protect from distraction than an open-ended work session.

How do I log a focus block in Modoro?

Open the app, pick a category such as Work or LeetCode, and either press Enter to start the countdown or use Quick Add to record a block you already completed. Quick Add takes two taps: choose a duration such as 25 minutes and confirm. The block appears immediately in your timeline and daily totals.

Can I use Modoro without signing in?

Yes. The timer, categories, quick logging, summary charts and timeline all work without an account. Data stays in the browser for the session, so signing in is only needed if you want your history saved across devices and days.

Is Modoro free to use?

Yes, Modoro is free. Running the timer, logging blocks, viewing the summary dashboard, calendar and timeline, and switching themes all cost nothing and require no subscription.

How does Modoro track focus time?

Every entry is a fixed block: a category, a duration in minutes, an optional detail note, and whether it was focus or break time. Modoro adds those blocks up per day, per category and per week or month, rather than relying on a timer you have to remember to stop.

Why fixed blocks instead of a start/stop stopwatch?

Stopwatch timers are easy to forget. A timer left running through lunch inflates the day and forces you to go back and edit entries. Logging a finished block keeps the record honest with no cleanup.

What do the AI daily insights do?

One tap sends the day's blocks to an AI model, which returns a short recap: what went well, what could be improved, a concrete suggestion for tomorrow, and how the day compares to a typical focused day. It turns raw minutes into feedback you can act on.

Does Modoro track breaks?

Yes. Short breaks (5 minutes) and long breaks (10 minutes) are logged separately from focus time. Break time appears in the summary and can be toggled in or out of the category share chart, and it never counts toward the leaderboard.

What themes does Modoro have?

Dark (pitch black with green accents), Light, Minimal Dark (pure black and white), Bloomberg Terminal (amber on black) and Alien Terminal (Nostromo-style green CRT with scanlines).

Does Modoro work on mobile?

Yes. The layout is mobile-first, the timer keeps running as you move between pages via a floating timer bar, and there is also a Chrome extension that opens in the browser side panel on desktop.

What keyboard shortcuts does Modoro support?

Number keys pick a category, Enter starts and pauses the timer, Space starts it on desktop, and R resets the current block.
